This unit explores the story of the First Fleet that had great consequences for the lives of the people onboard who arrived in what we now know as Australia, and for the Aboriginal people who were already there.
Students will be introduced to the historical context of early explorers, the industrialization of Britain, the mapping of Australia, international rivalry, and then the journey of the First Fleet.
Activities include the examination of a wide range of primary and secondary resources including artworks, journals and ship manifests.
All resources including Australian National Curriculum markers, reference material, sources, student worksheets and answers, templates etc are provided.
