Investigating Pioneers Who Made Australia is a series of evidence-based investigative biographies of selected Australians from the past whose actions shaped Australian history and identity, helping make the nation what it is today. The series is relevant to aspects of History, English and Civics and Citizenship at various year levels from Years 4-6 and 9-10. This unit provides a way in which students ‘become’ founders of the nation by having to make their own decisions about what sort of Australia they would have created in 1901. They then test their ideas against those of one of the original founders, Bruce Smith.
